When the author decided to drive to Costa Rica, he went to the Automobile Club, the library and several bookstores for information on driving the Pan-American Highway to Central America. As far as he could discover there were no books available on this subject. So, he gathered as much word-of-mouth information as possible to make the trip. As he and his wife drove through Mexico and Central America, he used a mini-cassette recorder to help make a graphic documentary of the trip. About the Author
The author Raymond Pritchard, a former New York travel tour operator and reporter during World War II, couldn't find any books on this subject in libraries or bookstores. So he wrote one. He and his wife Audrey, a one-time airline stewardess with TACA and American Airlines flying into Mexico and Central America, share their experiences in planning and making this adventure-filled journey. Christopher Howard, the author of the best selling guide --The Golden Door to Retirement, Living and Investing in Costa Rica-- and publisher of Mr. Pritchard's guide, updated this edition and supplied the Spanish translations and maps.
