FROM THE PUBLISHER

From the AuthorI believe very much in humor, and that many problems can be overcome with humor - as it is in tragic comedy. My world has a lot to do with love for J.S. Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Chaim Soutine, Charles Baudelaire, Anton Bruckner, Vincent Van Gogh, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Edgar Allen Poe, Oscar Wilde, Bela Bartok, William Shakespeare, Egon Schiele, Richard Strauss, Edward Gorey and Krishnamurti.

I have strong feelings toward, and good communications with, all animals - with the exception of centipedes.

About the AuthorFlo Singer was born in Munich, Germany, and raised in a family of eccentric musicians, giving her a background in music, literature and the arts. She studied Fine Art at the Akademie der Bildenden Kunste in Munich. In 1950 she immigrated to the United States and spent twelve years sailing and cruising the waterways of Florida and the Bahamas.

In 1964 Singer studied with Hilton Leech, and in 1967, with a scholarship, at the Sarasota (Florida) Fine Art Institute. She has painted under Phil Guston, Syd Solomon, Marca Relli and James Brooks. She has also taken courses with Al Brouilette and Judi Betts. During her many trips overseas, Singer has traveled and painted in most of the countries in Europe. Most of the drawings included in this book were created while on long flights on airplanes.

Singer has, for many years, had annual exhibits of her work in prestigious European galleries, where her expressionistic art is understood and appreciated. Her watercolors, graphics and batiks have always been well received. These shows have been held in the Palais Palfy in Vienna, the Wasserschloss in Wittringen, Germany and in many galleries in and around Munich.
