About the Author
Formerly the sports director for WSBT-TV in South Bend, Indiana, Charlie Adams is now the Saturday and Sunday morning news anchor for the CBS affiliate. In addition to his work in the South Bend market, he has worked in the broadcasting field for 17 years, with stations in Memphis, Tennessee; Bakersfield, California; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Meridian, Mississippi. He has won the Golden Microphone award three times, as well as an Associated Press/Broadcast Division Sportscaster of the Year award. Born on July 9, 1962 in Oxford, Mississippi, Adams went on to graduate from the University of Mississippi with a degree in Elementary Education. He now has two children, Jack and Abigail, and resides in South Bend. I Didn’t Know You Were So Tall! is his second book, following 1998’s Travels with Charlie, also published by Diamond Communications.

I Didn't Know You Were so Tall!: Insights and Stories from a Broadcasting Life

FROM THE PUBLISHER

Being successful in television broadcasting -- and life off the screen -- requires much more than just knowledge of news statistics and sports scores. Judging from Charlie Adams' new book, it also helps to have hot, hot coffee, a sense of humor, good friends, and patience enhanced by the routine observation of many viewers meeting the 6' 6" WSBT newscaster for the first time: "I didn't know you were so tall!"

In this second book, Adams serves up a new batch of observations and memories from his 17 years in broadcasting. Inside, you'll get behind-the-scenes scoops on WSBT's Newscast of the Year award for its coverage of severe weather, Adams' humiliating attempt to woo a Hollywood actress, the trials and rewards of being a first-time author, and his tongue-in-cheek thoughts on how to make the world a better place. Meet Charlie's friend and TV News mentor -- sportscaster Paul Hartlage -- as Adams shares the story of a courageous and determined man who fought an incredible battle against cancer, continued to do the job he loved, and touched the lives of countless friends and viewers during his too-brief career.

Sports fans will enjoy Charlie's account of the spectacular 2000-2001 Notre Dame women's basketball season and his favorite recollections of covering ND and college sports -- the Irish football player who won his lasting admiration, changes he thinks Notre Dame athletics should make, and his hard-hitting thoughts on Bob Knight. Join Charlie for a trip to Muhammad Ali's home, read his account of the Joe Montana-Larry Bird showdown in South Bend, find out what fans of Dale Earnhardt, Sr. had to say after the fatal crash at the 2001 Daytona 500, and hear more stories of the College Football Hall of Fame and memorable visits to the facility by stars such as Bobby Bowden, Walter Payton, and Herschel Walker.

From his early days in California sportscasting to his current position anchoring the news and all the adventures in-between, I Didn't Know You Were So Tall! is vintage Adams -- filled with stories and reflections guaranteed to enlighten and entertain you from cover to cover.
