This short book is aimed at nonspecialist physicians. The first edition was published in 2000.Purpose: This short title addresses the important problem of dyspepsia, a common complaint. Two internationally renowned experts describe the various causes of dyspepsia and provide up-to-date guidance on the management of different conditions contributing to dyspepsia. Overall, the book succeeds in providing easily accessible, best practice information in a timely fashion.Audience: The book is written with predominantly nonspecialist physicians in mind, namely students, residents, and primary care physicians. The authors are credible authorities in the field.Features: An easily digestible approach to the diagnosis and management of dyspepsia is presented in seven short chapters. These include chapters dealing with GERD, Helicobacter pylori, peptic ulcer, carcinoma of the esophagus and stomach, and functional dyspepsia. I especially enjoyed the chapters on Helicobacter pylori and functional dyspepsia. Information is presented in a crisp and succinct fashion in a pleasing colorful layout.Assessment: This is a welcome extension to the Fast Facts series dealing with gastroenterology topics. It provides easily accessible information in a user-friendly fashion to nonspecialist physicians. The second edition is justified due to this rapidly advancing field.
