About the Author
Jose Saramago (b. Azinhaga, Porugal, 1922) is the best-known contemporary Portuguese author. He has received many awards, including the Premio Camoes (equivalent to the Premio Cervantes for Portuguese) and the 1998 Nobel Prize. Saramago has written poetry, theather, chonicles, essays, and novels.
