Tippett Studio in Berkeley (www.tippett.com) used the RaveHD DDR on Matrix Reloaded and Starship Troopers 2 for their HD production pipeline. A DDR (Disk Drive Recorder) is a studio jukebox for video playback/editing, replacing video tape machines with a new technology that is digital and has better performance and reliability. SpectSoft's RaveHD (www.spectsoft.com) is a Linux-based DDR that supports DTV or HDTV. SpectSoft business partners Jason and Ramona Howard demonstrated RaveHD in November at a Linux Movies Group meeting in Hollywood (www.LinuxMovies.org), and in April, I caught up with them at their booth at the NAB convention.
