Special Olympics athletes were all over the place Saturday, playing softball at Shasta Park and golf at Riveridge Golf Course. While some 160 golfers and 350 softball players were swinging away on the diamond and the fairways, 32 others were indoors testing their skill in the demanding sport of gymnastics.
Of the three regional competitions held in Eugene-Springfield on Saturday in preparation for the Special Olympics state games in Corvallis next month, there was no better place to see the spirit of the Special Olympics than at the Academy of Artistic Gymnastics, located in a warehouse on Shelley Street in Springfield.
