During the last year, the St Lucia economy witnessed a marginal recovery reflected in a real GDP growth rate of 0.1%, said PM Kenny Anthony, reports The Star (April 12, 2003). Though small, this growth rate is "of tremendous significance" following the 4.6% contraction in the previous year, he said. The performance of the economy was influenced by a recovery in banana output, expansion in output of the manufacturing and communications sectors and modest recovery in tourism arrivals.
